  • Into the Wild: Mt Kilimanjaro (Ch. 03)

    Our flight was quite empty so we could change our seats as we wanted.

    As we flew above ethopia all the way to Tanzania, we were around 2 hrs into our journey with just 30-35 mins more to our destination,  the pilot announced that we might see Mt Kilimanjaro on our left, so we all changed to the window seats and we were lucky to see Mt. Kilimanjaro.

    It’s peak is usually not visible due to the clouds, but for us, our luck was with us ; ) leading to a clear sky.

    The peak is visible only from above provided there’s a clear sky, but even during the clear sky, it’s not visible from the ground at it’s at a height of 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) above the sea level, it’s peak is surrounded by clouds making it difficult to spot.

    Well we were only there for a very less time, so maybe one might see if there’s a really clear sky but, that’s a little difficult.

    Nonetheless if you plan long trip then don’t forget to include the Mt. Kilimanjaro trek !!

  • Into the Wild: Beginning of an Adventure (Ch. 1)

    Our adventure started even before we landed in Africa. It started right from Kolkata airport, when our flight was delayed and to put a cherry on top, it took us around 40mins to reach our guest house when distance was only 5 mins away from the airport. Yes you guessed it right, we were lost even with the google maps on.

    Our stay in Mumbai was quite comfortable and even the next day our flight was on time to Ethopia. Nothing much of an adventure here.

    But, yeah ! how could I forget the immigration . . .

    We were supposed to get a visa on arrival at Kilimanjaro airport (Tanzania), so we only had all the documents & travel itinerary needed except our passport, so the airport officials did harass us a bit, but it wasn’t much of an issue.

    Now the real journey started from Addis Ababa (Ethopia) airport to . . .

    Well to know more stay tuned for the next chapter ; )

    I came in search of the big cats, but what I found was far more than I what I expected.

    From dusty trails to sun kissed landscapes, it’s place where nature embraces you into a warm hug. From different cultures, tribes, to its diverse flora & fauna, it’s a must visit for all nature & wildlife enthusiasts.

  • Why They Call Me That (and Why I Let Them)

    What’s the story behind your nickname?

    Well, as I meet different people, they often end up with a new version of my name & I end up with multiple names along the way .

    It all started with ‘Niki’ as in from “Best of Luck Niki” short for ‘Nikita’ and then it gravitated to “Nikku” during college years so much that even seniors & staff started addressing me that way ><            This truly left me speechless! Well as for why they call me that? I guess ’cause it sounds cute : p but as for how & when it turned from ‘Niki’ to ‘Nikku’, well that’s a mystery for me too.

    Some also preferred to address me as ‘Rachel’, my second name which also became ‘Rach’ for some . . .

    And . . . I guess I’m not mad at it.

    Then only name that irked me was & is ‘Niki’, and as for why, I still don’t have an answer for that.

    Well, nonetheless a new phase of my life will start soon, & maybe a few more maybe get added to list,  well until then happy reading ; )

  • Tracing the Paths of Trauma: The Intricacies of the Mind

    On my way to college, I realized how certain incidents leave a negative mark on our minds. Over time, we begin to avoid the things or paths associated with them, and gradually, these memories engrave themselves into our consciousness as trauma.

    To come out from this trauma, we just need to take a step forward, just one step after which we’ll realize that it wasn’t that hard nor traumatic as it seemed, but to take the first step is a challenge.

    The event might not be as traumatic as we expressit to be,  but the way our mind makes a simple situation complicated causes it to be traumatic.

    How strange our mind is, right?

  • How this journey of Hope & Connection began . . .

    I started writing as a way to untangle my emotions & sought my thoughts, but as I began sharing my words on Instagram, I discovered something unexpected; there are many others out there who struggling with their own battles, facing difficulties just like mine, or perhaps even greater & some don’t have someone  to confide in .

    So,this is how my journey started . I started to write with a more positive tone on social media to reach those who just need a ray of hope to move forward or perhaps simply survive.

    Well, now when I look back, writing was never my forte. In fact, I used to hate creative writing, and I never really understood the art of poetry. But as far as I remember, during my 10th grade, while writing poems as part of an English class activity, the art of poetry intrigued me & I slowly began to develop fondness towards poetry.

    Eventually, I started appreciating the art of expressing emotions and stories in just a few words. Over time, people online also began to appreciate my work, and hearing how my words had a positive impact on them marked the beginning of my journey to make a difference.
